Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the big earthquake of April 6, 1906 in San Francisco, the Exploratorium will feature a number of projects dealing with this topic. Artist Franz John from Berlin, whose work focuses on the intersection between art and technology, contributes to a project that emerged with brsma, Berlin (programming) and the sound artist Ed Osborn from Oakland.
In his project “Turing Tables” Franz John visualizes seismological data, exchanged and communicated via internet all over the world, siphoning this human-machine-communication data stream directly from finger-servers and bringing it into his online installation. In a matter of seconds, this installation converts these measurements from the seismological stations into sound and image. From the perspective of a "global eye" the internet directly connects the observer with the pulsating core of the earth.
Franz John’s work shows regularly at Galerie Schüppenhauer in Cologne, “Turing Tables” has also been exhibited in Spain.
