Germany boasts a diverse range of dance residencies. Some of them are located in renowned dance centres that also offer a high-end dance program for public audiences. Some of the residencies are in special houses for performing artists, which offer the dance artists a quiet, creative place to realize their ideas and projects.

In Canada, the dance residency infrastructure is less developed than in Germany. Only a few companies offer studios and stage setup.

To foster sustainable exchange in the area of contemporary dance and to strengthen the network of German and Canadian dancers, the Goethe-Institute Montreal and Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique has launched an annual residency program for the years 2007-2012. The purpose of the residency is to develop a new piece that will be presented in Canada in the year following the residency.

For up to three weeks (between mid-July and mid-August), the program gives as many as three persons the opportunity to work in a studio in Montreal. Airline tickets, accommodation, and a daily allowance are provided by the Goethe-Institute Montreal. Circuit-Est centre chorégraphique provides a studio. During their residency in Montreal, the German artists will offer a public presentation of their work.

Those interested can send their curriculum vitae (in English) and supporting materials to the attention of Caroline Gagnon (kultur@montreal.goethe.org). The deadline is October 31, 2011.
