UN Studio / Ben van Berkel, 2006

The car museum is one of Stuttgart’s greatest tourist attractions, and UN Studio’s building for the Daimler Corporation is certainly one of the previous decade’s most important. Futuristic and designed with computer guidance, the building is based on an elaborate geometry and its complex spatial organisation. The visitor’s path runs through the centre of the museum, beginning at its peak and proceeding spirally downward. Two different paths are available, each with its own emphasis. The two paths meet on each floor, allowing visitors to switch tracks if desired. The museum is located on an expressway at the company headquarters in Untertürkheim and is most easily accessible by car.
