THE CULTURAL PRACTICE OF FOOD SHARING
HE CULTURAL PRACTICE OF FOOD SHARING - Talk © Aktion Agrar
Whether communal dining in Russia, a farmers' market in Beijing connecting local organic producers and consumers or food shortage in the Philippines, the phenomenon of food sharing is practiced worldwide. But who shares their food with whom and what is the motivation for people to share food? What role does sharing food play in throwaway societies and in regions of widespread poverty?
The anthropologist Nota F. Magno explains the economical, social and symbolic functions of the daily practice of food sharing in the Philippines. Together with the philosopher Tatiana Barchunova from Russia and dumpster divers from Germany, Magno will discuss the various forms and meanings of food sharing.
