Cultural historian

Eszter Babarczy is a cultural historian and essayst. Born in 1966 in Budapest, she first trained as a philosopher and art historian in Budapest, then as a historian in New York, eventually receiving her Ph.D. in communication studies. She has published several essays and columns in Hungarian and English, a selection of which was published as a book in 1996. She has been running non-profit initiatives for many years and is an active participant of the emerging civic scene in Hungary.

She is currently an assistant professor of media studies and cultural studies at Moholy-Nagy University for the Arts (MOME) in Budapest and works on a novel about Hungarian history and the Great War.
