Curriculum Vitae
Wang Guangyi is one of the pioneers of the contemporary Chinese art scene and the leader of the “political pop” movement. Wang Guangyi has developed his own unmistakeable form of expression, particularly through his works based on heroic images from the cultural revolution. In the 1980s, he caused a stir by doctoring portraits of Mao. However, Wang Guangyi appears to equally enjoy making fun of Eastern propaganda and Western propaganda when he places global brand names like Coca Cola, Visa and Mc Donald's in the context of Maoist China in his works.
