The state of visual arts in Afghanistan is characterized not least by the decades artists spent in seclusion from artistic developments around the world. Alongside the work of the University of Kabul various art initiatives have been launched in the areas of painting and sculpture, however they are often based on techniques of copying - it is still difficult to find real modern art.
