Matthias Koch

(c) Matthias KochMatthias Koch was born in 1967 and currently lives in Düsseldorf. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Düsseldorf from 1990 until 1995 where he became Bernd Becher’s “Meisterschüler” in 1995. From 1998 until 2000 he taught Photography at the Faculty of Visual Arts at the University of Hannover. From 2006 until 2008 he was a lecturer for Photo/Film-Media at the University of Niederrhein in Krefeld. His works have already been shown in various solo and group exhibitions and he has established a worldwide reputation, especially in the field of art and documentary photography. “Historical places” are of central interest to him as a photographer. He was part of the RUHR.2010-Exhibition “Ruhrblicke”. For his project he tried to capture the Ruhr area’s past. A 30 metre long stand was always with him: a discarded cart of the fire brigade.
