The Exhibitions

Germany and Australia are Far Away from each other and yet So Close. Since 2007 the Goethe-Institut’s photographic exhibitions Far Away So Close have enjoyed considerable success. Bridging the ‘tyranny of distance’ between Germany and Australia three main exhibition projects developed – pointing out that Germany and Australia are indeed much closer than one should think.

In part I Australian photographer Che Chapman portrayed Australians living in Germany, in part II German photographer Claudia Terstappen portrayed Germans living in Australia. These counterpart exhibitions have been combined in mid 2007 in a new show.

For Part III German photographer Matthias Koch travelled throughout Australia with an open eye for historic and modern day signs of Germany. He gives an unexpected insight into the life and history of Germany in Australia and shows glimpses of German culture in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney.
