Your German Place in Australia

 Martin Hildebrand

Travelling around the world in 1995, I arrived in Australia in February 1995. “This is just too hot for me” were my first thoughts when arriving in Darwin. Four weeks later I fell in love with an Australian girl who I had briefly met in Thailand.

The rest is history. We married in 2000 and I made Australia my home. One problem remained to be resolved. What to do with a German law degree in Australia? After a brief stint in financial services I found my calling as migration agent and have been advising clients ever since.

Being a migrant enables me to understand my clients’ concerns, I am always happy if I can help.

Coming from 2 different countries has enriched our marriage immensely. We have two children now who grow up speaking English and German. It is important to me that they learn German, learn about German culture. It is just incredible to see how they pick up both languages effortlessly, switch from German to English depending on who they speak to.

I love the Australian weather now, love Sydney and couldn’t imagine a more beautiful city to live in.
