1973  studied German and Romanian literature at university in Timişoara (Temeswar)    
1973   association with with Aktionsgruppe Banat, a group of German-speaking authors agitating for freedom of speech under Ceauşescu’s dictatorship
1977 sacked for refusing to act as an informant for secret police
1982 debut with short story collection, "Niederungen"
1984    Aspekte Literature Prize
1987   emigrated to West Berlin with her husband, author Richard Wagner
1994   Kleist Prize
1995     becomes a member of "Deutsche für Sprache und Dichtung", Darmstadt
1997   Literature Prize of Graz  
1998   International IMPAC DUBLIN Literary Award for "Land of Green Plums"
1999

2002   Carl-Zuckmayer-Medaille of Rhineland-Palatinate

Eugen Ruge wins the German Book Prize 2011

His novel “In Zeiten des abnehmenden Lichts” is an autobiographical story of an East German family and his incredible literary debut.
