1983    matriculation in Odenwald; lives and works in Montpellier
1985 publishes his first Kayankaya novel "Happy Birthday, Turk!" (made into film by Doris Doerrie)
1986 moves to Berlin; studies acting; publishes further Kayankaya novels
1987 receives writers’ award for youth theatre play "Nazim schiebt ab"
1992   awarded German Crime Novel Prize for "One Man, One Murder"
2000   novel "Magic Hoffmann" shortlisted for the IMPAC Award
2005 

writer-in-residence at Deutsches Haus in New York  

lives in Berlin and Southern France
