born 1943 in the Altai Mountains (Mongolia)

1962 - 1968  studies German at the University of Leipzig
1968 – 1976 lecturer for German at the University of Ulaanbaatar  
1976 - 1987 works as journalist and translator; in 1981 publication of his first collection of short stories of “Eine tuwanische Geschichte und andere Erzählungen”, written in German
1987 – 1990 editor of the magazine “Setgüültsch”
since 1991 writing full time
1994   Adelbert-von-Chamisso Prize
1995 reunites his nomadic tribe, the Tuwans, in their homeland in the high Altai Mountains  
2001 Heimito-von-Doderer Prize
2002   Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany  
2008 

Literature Prize of the Association of Arts and Culture of the German Economy 

  lives in Ulaanbaatar
