What does a divided heaven look like? Rita begins to understand when the love of her life Manfred becomes disenchanted by the East German state and decides to leave for the West, after a new chemical process he developed is rejected by the authorities. Attempting to follow him and rebuild their relationship in the West, Rita comes to the realisation that the two now live in different worlds. Adapted from Christa Wolf's internationally celebrated novel of the same name, Divided Heaven is considered by critics to be one of the 100 most important German films.
