Invasion

Josef Mendel is a lonely old man who recently became a widower. Three months after his beloved wife Johanna passed away Josef receives a surprise visit from Johanna’s cousin, Nina. Josef can’t remember Johanna mentioning any cousins but Nina seems to know all about Johanna, and Josef is happy to help when Nina asks if he can provide temporary accommodation for her son, Simon, a kendo instructor, and his fetching young wife, Milena. With Simon displaying erratic behavior, Milena displaying behavior unbecoming a married woman and Nina dropping in constantly with her scary boyfriend, Konstantin. Josef starts to wonder whether something’s not quite right about these people and their domestic arrangements. Stylishly directed by Georgia-born Dito Tsintzadse and starring distinguished veteran Burghart Klaussner as the increasingly jittery Josef, Invasion is a fast-paced and highly entertaining combination of paranoia thriller, fruity melodrama and jet-black comedy.

Dito Tsintsadze was born 1957 in the former USSR in Tbilisi where he studied at the Institute for Theatre and Film. He now lives and works in Berlin. The Man from the Embassy (2005) won several awards. Films such as Reverse (2008) and Mediator (2009) followed.
