Shop around the Corner, The

(The Shop around the Corner)

Director: Ernst Lubitsch, b/w, 97 mins
USA 1940

This classic romantic comedy, with its charming and bittersweet "Lubitsch Touch", is set in pre World War II Budapest. Klara and Alfred, two clerks in a retail store, don't get along very well at first, but each is romantically involved outside of their work by exchanging letters with an anonymous pen pal who seems to be the ideal love. A rocky romance full of humour and drama.
