Community Landtrust Bxl (CLTB)
In 2010, a group of people and associations looking for alternative solutions to the housing crisis in Brussels discovered the Community Land Trust (CLT) model in the United States. CLTs are organizations that purchase land to be managed as a common good and in the interest of the community. Their aim is to build houses that are affordable to low income people by selling the homes and not the land on which they are built. The land remains propriety of the CLT, contributing to the creation of an equitable and democratic city. Thanks to the support and recognition by the Brussels Region, the Community Land Trust Bxl (CLTB) is developing four important housing projects since 2012.
Accessible housing, commons, sustainable city development, community building, active citizenship
Local associations, families in housing need, local authorities, housing right activists, citizens, architects
Housing crisis, doubling of housing prices between 2000 and 2010, shortage of social housing, gentrification of popular districts, need for more community
