Lernziele – Learning outcomes

Oral Communication: Listening

In this unit, students will

  • Demonstrate the ability to extract information from complex oral messages conveyed through various media and formal presentations (e.g., understand and interpret key messages from a song, slam poem performance or series of video-interviews).

Oral Communication: Speaking

In this unit, students will

  • Use standard pronunciation and intonation in the international language with accuracy and fluency (eg. in the preparation and performance of a slam poem, and in small classroom debates);
  • Participate in conversations and group discussions using vocabulary and language structures appropriate to the level (e.g., take part in a debate on the importance and dynamics of different types of personal relationship);
  • Express personal opinions and explain ideas in a variety of prepared and open-ended conversations (e.g., discuss personal opinions on the topic of people and relationships with classmates, work together in pairs and small groups to gather information and ideas);
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the culture of countries where the language is spoken in a variety of creative activities (e.g. write and perform a slam poem).

Reading

In this unit, students will

  • Read, for comprehension of main ideas and supporting details, selections from a variety of texts (e.g., articles, interviews, poems, short stories);
  • Read aloud with accuracy and fluency (eg. in the discussion of texts read for this unit);
  • Respond to a range of texts in a variety of media by relating the ideas and themes treated to contemporary issues and personal experiences.

Writing

In this unit, students will

  • Write reports and compositions, using vocabulary and language structures appropriate to the level (e.g., write a description of a good friend, or a creative slam poem);
  • Express ideas and feelings in writing, using increasingly complex forms (e.g., write descriptive, creative and expository compositions);
  • Edit and proofread their work, with attention to accuracy in the use of vocabulary and language structures, using input from peers and the teacher as well as a variety of other resources (e.g., use print and electronic dictionaries as well as textbook resources and notes in their binders to systematically scan a written text for avoidable errors. Use a proof-reading checklist to guide and train this technique).

Grammar and Language Knowledge

In this unit, students will

  • Consolidate the recognition and application of verbs which take the Dative, the Perfekt and Präteritum, adjective endings and prepositions (learned in previous courses and earlier units);
  • Learn and practice the use of the Konjunktiv II and conditional forms with „würde + Infinitiv”, including the application of these forms in creative written texts.
