Lernziele – Learning outcomes

Reading

In this unit, students will

  • Read for comprehension of main ideas and supporting details, selections from a variety of texts (e.g. texts about the history of the Berlin Wall and its fall, opportunities for studying within the European Union);
  • Demonstrate the ability to make inferences and predictions (e.g. analyze statistics in „Reisen ohne Grenzkontrollen”);
  • Respond to a range of texts in a variety of media by relating the ideas and themes treated to personal experiences (e.g. What kind of pen pal would I look for?);
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the culture of the countries where German is spoken in a variety of projects (e.g. Research the life in the former East Germany – DDR-Museum.

Writing

In this unit, students will

  • Express ideas and feelings in writing (e.g. – write about personal experiences when working on „Tränenpalast” worksheet);
  • Write compositions , using vocabulary and language structures appropriate to the level (e.g. – write an e-mail to a new friend telling him/her about yourself);
  • Revise and edit work for accuracy and content, logical organization and ideas.

Speaking

In this unit, students will

  • Discuss on personal experiences related to topics of the unit (e.g. – Living far away from family members or Advantages of participating in program exchanges and going to a different country);
  • Analyze in a group effort pictures of historical places and events included in this unit.

Listening

In this unit, students will

  • Understand and evaluate film excerpts;
  • Understand and evaluate authentic TV programs;
  • Understand and evaluate authentic interviews with German students.

Grammar and Language Knowledge

In this unit, students will

  • Learn how to use the simple (literary) past tense;
  • Learn how to use the pluperfect;
  • Learn how to use the genitive case.
