Canada’s Participation in the International Olympics of German

Each country is allowed to send two pupils and one accompanying teacher. While the pupils will show off their language skills, the teachers will have the opportunity to participate in workshops and educational training.
The competition is divided into two phases and it is determined by the language levels A2, B2 and C1.
Pupils born between 1993 and 1998 are eligible to participate after having successfully passed the national qualifying round.
Canadian Qualifying Round:
1st Phase: Fall 2011, online
The first phase took place online by means of an e-learning software platform called “moodle”.
During five weeks, young people (individually and in groups) proved their language skills and their knowledge related to the geography, history and institutions of Germany.
2nd Phase: January 28 - 29, 2012, in Montreal
For the second phase of the national qualifying round, thirteen Canadian candidates were invited to Montreal, where the best “language athletes” were determined and then prepared for the finals in Frankfurt. Apart from the language skills, the pupils also had to show team spirit and creativity.
International Olympics of German: July 1-14, 2012 in Frankfurt
Grégoire Herzog from Saint-Polycarpe, Quebec and Beatrice Rost-Komiya from Victoria, British Columbia are the winners of the Canadian Qualifying Round and will represent Canada in Frankfurt. Congratulations!
The German teacher Marie-France will accompany them.
