The Goethe-Institut Toronto, located in the heart of downtown Toronto, provides services for the five Canadian provinces of Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan and is a meeting point for anyone interested in German culture and for those who want to study or teach German.

For 50 years, the Goethe-Institut Toronto has been promoting an ongoing dialogue and exchange between Canadian and German artists and experts in order to present German culture abroad and help shape a current understanding of Germany today.

The program department organizes a broad range of events and supports projects in the fields of film and new media, arts, theatre and dance, music, literature, architecture and more. Events take place at our Canadian partner venues. Beyond this, the Goethe-Institut arranges thematic trips to Germany for experts in the arts and media.

The language department offers a full range of language courses and official exams. Learning about German life and culture is an integral part of the language courses. Extensive workshops and teacher training seminars for school and university teachers of German as a Second Language round off the program. The Goethe-Instituts in Toronto and Montreal have the highest course enrolments of all North American institutes.

The Information and Library Centre serves as a resource hub for all contemporary aspects of the social, political and cultural life in Germany and is a lending library of books and multimedia, open to anyone interested in Germany and the German language. Furthermore, the Goethe-Institut Toronto is creating working relationships with Canadian libraries as well as the developing up-to-date online information services.

The work of the Goethe-Institut Toronto is integrated into the North American region with seven US Goethe-Instituts in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York (regional head office), San Francisco and Washington, together with its three Canadian institutes in Montréal, Ottawa und Toronto and institutes in Mexico City, Guadalajara and Havana.

If you live within another region, please contact the local Goethe-Institut.
