Conditions

Only non-German publishers are eligible to apply.

The award of a grant is dependent upon the following conditions:
  • a valid licence agreement must have been obtained (except in the case of works in the public domain)
  • the book must not be at the printing stage or have been published at the time any grant is awarded
  • the application form must be completed in full and submitted with the following documentation:
    • calculation of costs, incl. length of print-run
    • licence agreement and contract with translator
    • two copies of the German edition, plus reviews (the German publisher should be requested to forward reading copies and German reviews directly to the Goethe-Institut's head office in Munich)
    • one copy of the German text (in the case of works in the public domain)
    • justification of the project (relevance of the work to the sales area, how it fits into the publisher's list, why financial support is necessary: see application form)
  • the consent of the selection committee, which meets twice a year
We would like to point out that the grant will only be paid after complimentary copies and documentation of expenditure have been presented to us.
