Publishing art books has a long tradition in Germany. The exhibition Art Publishing in Germany, based on a concept jointly set up by the Goethe-Institut Hongkong and Hong Kong Public Libraries, was first shown in Hong Kong Central Library in March 2006 and presented around 400 art books that were published in Germany during the past few years in English or bilingual editions.
From 16.11. to 16.12.2006 the collection was on display in Lingnan University Library, enriched by a selection of the 2006-editions of German art publishers. The descriptions of around 100 new titles 2006, that were published in English or bilingual editions, are enclosed to the different topics.
From 17.03 to 31.03.2007 this exhibition went to Beijng and was displayed in the China Central Academy of Fine Arts.
From 02.10.2007 to 01.11.2007 this collection was on display then in the Library of Hong Kong Baptist University and from 12.11.2007 - 07.12.2007 in the Shek Mun Campus Library of Hong Kong Baptist University.
Interesting parties could find this collection from 05.05.2008 to 13.6.2008 daily in the Gallery of Taipei Public Library (No. 125, Sec.2, Jian-guo S. Road, Taipei 10659, Taiwan; from 9.a.m. to 5 p.m.).
New titles published in 2007 and 2008 were again added to this collection.
In summer 2010 the updated collection will be presented at the National Library of China. Details will be announced later.
The exhibition gives an insight into the quality of design and printing of contemporary art publishing in Germany as well as an overview of contemporary trends in German art including the fields of design, photography and architecture.
