Freiburg, the small metropolis with the big cultural programme: eight municipal theatres, two orchestras, choirs, libraries, numerous museums and galleries compete for an audience. Jazz concerts, the "Fest der Innenhöfe" ("the festival of courtyards", at which musicians play in courtyards around the city) and the Zelt-Musik-Festival, which presents more than 100 highly diverse concerts over 19 days, enliven Freiburg's musical life. All of this – and a network of bicycle paths that earn Freiburg the title of the bicycle city – justify Freiburg's very positive image and a reputation as a city where there is never a shortage of leisure time activities. Sport lovers are equally spoiled for choice. The swimming pools, thermal baths, hiking trails, winter sports and cycling facilities will satisfy anyone's urge to get moving.
