Katarzyna Krakowiak was born in 1980 and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan from 2003 to 2006 and works extensively using the Internet and mobile communications. She has received several residencies and scholarships such as at the Space Gallery in Bratislava, Slovakia (2006), from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland (2007), and at the 18th Street Art Center in Santa Monica, California (2010). As a sculptor and installation artist, Krakowiak has collaborated with architects, stage designers, and mobile communications technicians. She builds virtual monuments using radio connections and Internet links. Since 2005 she has collaborated on the Ashaver220.net multimedia platform. Her work has been shown in many exhibitions, including Tracing Mobility in Nottingham (2010), WRO 09 Expander City in Wrocław, Poland, Free Radio Jaffa at the Israeli Center for Digital Art in Holon, Israel (2009), and The Games & Theory at the South London Gallery in London (2008).
