Networked Knowledge

Networking knowledge by Couchsurfing principles

Living in a globalized society surely implies effects on the world's economic order which is getting more and more internationalized through communication, transportation, and trade. But these increased means of exchange also have an impact on political, cultural and educational factors. The circulation of ideas is fostered by the increasing mobility of people and growing communication networks. But still travelling and interchanging knowledge is not for free.

One collaborative educational project that stresses the dynamics of mobility and exchange is “Migrating Art Academies”. Its aim is to increase the flow of cultural experience and personal knowledge by providing options of meeting, learning and training on an international level.

At the same time the project is taking the economic correlations into account. Building a network for sharing knowledge at feasible conditions is one of the targets of the project. The idea includes a model of travelling and exchanging at low budget to enable artistic collaboration and learning.

This year representatives from different international art universities and other cultural organizations come together at the Nida Art Colony in Lithuania for the “CouchSurfing laboratory”, to elaborate a future cooperation model which is based on the idea of sharing and hosting. The event takes place from July 17th – 21st including two days of live streaming on the internet. To find out more about the “CouchSurfing laboratory” please visit the project website.
