Louisa Slavkova

Louisa Slavkova ; Foto: private Louisa Slavkova is founding board member and director of Sofia Platform, a democracy promotion organization, looking at how the specific experience of Eastern Europe in transition can be of help to Europe’s Southern and Eastern Neighbourhoods. As part of Sofia Platform she co-initiated the Tunisian School of Politics. Among her latest publications are “Unrewarding crossroads: The Black Sea Region amidst the European Union and Russia” (editor).

Louisa is also programmes manager at the European Council on Foreign Relations. In this capacity she is supporting the senior management of the organization in shaping the activities of ECFR’s four geographical programmes. Louisa is a regular contributor to ECFR’s series Views from the capitals, where she writes on Bulgaria, but also on the European neighbourhood policy and energy security related topics.

Prior to that Louisa was political advisor to the interim minister of environment (2013) and to the minister of foreign affairs Nickolay Mladenov (2011-2013). Prior to that she was engaged with the German Federal Agency for Civic Education, where she is still member of focus groups on civic education in the MENA.

She is a PhD candidate looking at what she is mostly passionate about -- the intersection between democracy promotion and foreign policy in Europe's neighbourhood.
