EUNIC España was founded in October 2008 by the Goethe-Institut Spain, British Council, Institut Français de Madrid, Italian Cultural Institute Madrid, the Czech Centre Madrid, the Austrian Cultural Forum, the Finnish Institute in Madrid, the Alliance Française Spain and the Romanian Cultural Institute of Madrid.
