Music leaves practically nobody untouched. People love it, hate it, it makes people happy, sad, angry or it makes people want to dance. In language teaching, its subjective, emotional character encourages both the receptive and the productive talents of the students.
Today, most of us have the possibility of using music in combination with its lyrics and the corresponding music video. All types of music (rock or pop songs, hiphop, jazz, electronic as well as classical music) constitute authentic materials — as required within the European Framework of Reference — which enable outstanding communication of knowledge of countries (on history, geography, everyday culture etc.).
Within the scope of the German-English bilingual classes, particular attention must be paid to incorporation into content-oriented projects or teaching modules.
