Berlin Theatertreffen Internationales Forum - May 2010
Alan McKendrick was born 1979 in Paisley, Scotland.
Projects as writer/director include The James Dean Death Scene (Tron, Glasgow & Traverse, Edinburgh. Winner Arches Award For Stage Directors), Finished With Engines (Arches, Glasgow. Final-Shortlisted Meyer-Whitworth Award. Revived Traverse Edinburgh Festival), The Bad Drive Well (Arches) and the film installation pieces Violence Was Offered (Arches) and It's Been Emotional (Gi/GoMA/Trongate 103). He has also made work with various other organisations, including Hebbel Theater Am Ufer Berlin, Volksbühne Berlin, Tramway, Untitled Projects, National Theatre Of Scotland Workshop, National Theatre Studio London, Riot Group (NYC), Theater Der Welt Stuttgart, Bayerische Staatsoper Munich and Malmö Opera, Sweden. His plays have been performed in the UK, Germany and Canada.
Upcoming work includes writing a pair of short operas for Aldeburgh Music, Ringside Seat At The Sobriety Olympics (with Donal Sarsfield) and Hope Dies Hard In His House (with Luke Styles), the latter of which he will also direct, plus time spent working on two stage plays supported by a Creative Scotland Writer's Bursary.
