The library is open to the general public. Reference use of the library is free of charge. To borrow books and other materials, a valid library card is needed. To obtain one, simply fill in an application form and also present proof of address (i.e. driving licence, utility bill, etc). Library membership is available for the following fees:

Students enrolled in Goethe-Institut language courses are entitled to free library membership for the duration of their course.
Course participants of the Alliance française and their registered readers pay the concessionary annual rate.
Group membership for schools, colleges and university departments is now available. Please contact the Library for details on group membership generally.
Students at the Faculty of Film, Media and Theatre Studies and Students of German at the University of Glasgow and Strathclyde, and RSAMD students already enjoy group membership for the academic year 2011/2012 - (full-time students).
Membership rate for Secondary Schools: £45; Primary Schools: £35.
Together with the Library of the Alliance française, we offer Joint School Membership at a special rate:
£80 (Secondary Schools), £60 (Primary Schools).
Different rates apply for colleges and university departments.
Loan periods:
Books, audio cassettes, CDs: 4 weeks
Videos, DVDs, CD ROMs and magazines (except Spiegel and Stern): 2 weeks
Renewals:
The loan period may be extended twice, provided that other library users have not reserved the materials. For renewals, excluding that of magazines:
