American Public Libraries : Today's challenges
Public libraries can be found in almost every city and town in the United States. While their sophistication and services differ according to their size and location, all have been greatly impacted by technological change. At the dawn of the 21st century, certain trends and challenges are common to all public libraries. This paper presents an overview and discusses some of the most notable of these in the crucial areas of reference, cataloging, collection development, and the role of librarian.
