Yong Shu Ling

Yong Shu Ling is a Singaporean filmmaker with a passion for social issue documentaries. Shu Ling had her eyes opened to issues of social justice, and the power of documentary film, during the few years she lived in Chicago.

Inspired, she has returned home to Singapore, where she founded Media For Social Change, a social enterprise dedicated to raising awareness and fostering positive community impact through documentary storytelling and social media engagement. She is also producing/directing her first feature-length documentary Intuition, which follows a young woman who attempts to change the way marginalised students learn in Singapore classrooms.

She is also an Associate Producer of In The Game, a documentary-in-progress by the multiple award-winning Kartemquin Films (The Interrupters, Hoop Dreams), which tackles the issue of the widening income and education opportunity gap in the US. Shu Ling has worked on over 150 video projects, primarily with non-profits and changemakers, to strengthen their impact and reach.

Shu Ling is also a Media Education Scheme scholar with the Media Development Authority (MDA) of Singapore, a Ngee Ann Kongsi Gold Medal winner, a Diverse Voices in Docs fellow, and has been invited to speak at the Chicago Documentary Summit, Chicago Filmmakers, and Northwestern University.
