It trains, supports and encourages a burgeoning community of filmmakers, video artists, screenwriters and post-production workers in Myanmar.

Regular YFS Workshops in Yangon bring together experienced filmmakers from around the world - including Germany, UK, Finland, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Australia - and young Burmese men and women for training in all aspects of filmmaking.

We believe Myanmar has important stories to tell. Our emphasis is on documentary filmmaking, although recently we have expanded into creating short dramas made with a documentary ethos. Films made by YFS students are screened at film festivals at home and abroad and regularly win awards. Several titles have been broadcast on Myanmar television and in Germany.

YFS also creates films for local and international NGOs. Filmed even in the most inaccessible areas of Myanmar, these projects range from malaria and AIDS awareness to environmental concerns to trauma healing following the catastrophic Cyclone Nargis in the Ayeyarawady Delta. YFS students hail from many different ethnic backgrounds in Myanmar and all walks of life, including film, journalism, literature, photography, fine arts and IT but also from the health and development sectors. In 2009, several YFS graduates began training to be tutors and are now working alongside our international instructors to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of filmmakers in Myanmar.
