German photographer Peter Bialobrzeski travelled from October 2007 till March 2008 through South-East-Asia, combining his own photographic investigations about urban nature with workshops for selected photographers in the six foremost cities of the region. A total of 37 photographers took part in the workshops. They shot 255 photos in the process. Out of this pool the exhibition was curated.
The approach of the workshops was to develop the creative potentials of the participants. The task was to take a series of photographs about hidden and unfamiliar aspects of the cities the photographers live in. The aim was that each series finally reflects the photographers personality and has its’ own distinctive art work.
The workshop series was organized by the Goethe-Institut Jakarta with the help of the Goethe-Institut offices in Bangkok, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Singapore and local partners. Support is provided by the University of the Arts in Bremen for making Prof. Peter Bialobrzeski available to stay for 6 months in Southeast Asia.
