Product of Circumstances is an autobiographical conference in the form of a performance and a choreography in the form of a lecture.

“Biography as theory. An autobiographical discussion is transformed into a performance. My body as the raw material of social and cultural organization and the practice of a critical necessity.”
Xavier Le Roy

Xavier Le Roy talks about his journey from molecular biology to dance and choreography. In Product of Circumstances Le Roy describes how he grew into these two systems, grappled with their expectations, resisted their demands for conformity and eventually, disillusioned, struck out on his own.

Xavier Le Roy has worked as a dancer and choreographer since 1991. Le Roy was voted Choreographer of the Year in 2006 and has collaborated with Eszter Salomon and numerous other artists. Le Roy has participated in advanced training projects in a variety of different contexts and institutions.

Dr Amanda Card from the University of Sydney’s Department of Performance Studies will open the event with a brief discussion of Le Roy’s works at 7.30 pm. The performance will commence at 8.15 pm. Following Product of Circumstances Xavier Le Roy will conduct a Q & A session with the audience.
