Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM)

(Arts Centre)

Located on Jalan Cikini Raya, the Jakarta Art Centre, or Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM), is home to the Jakarta Academy, Jakarta Art Council, Jakarta Art Foundation, Jakarta Art Institute (IKJ) and a number of galleries and art spaces.

Profile

The centre was named in honour of the Indonesian musician Ismail Marzuki, whose statue watches over the entrance to the centre.

The Arts Institute (IKJ) is the first Indonesian university dedicated to the performing and visual arts, and the only one of its kind in Indonesia. Said to be the largest art centre in Southeast Asia, the institute’s facilities include exhibition halls, theatres, an academy of the arts, an archives building and planetarium.

A monthly programme of events including exhibitions, plays, musical and poetry recitals, dance performances, folk art and drama from Indonesia’s diverse regions is available at most hotel reception desks.

The centre’s facilities also include a theatre hall, an open-air theatre, exhibition halls, two art galleries and a cinema.
