Akademie Schloss Solitude

(Residencies Programme)

The Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart has been sponsoring young international artists with residential scholarships since 1990. The Academy aims to serve as a platform for scientific and artistic exchange in the Late Baroque palace in Stuttgart. 50 to 60 scholarship holders are selected every 24 months. Up to 45 studio apartments are available for them.

Scholarships are awarded in the fields of architecture, the fine arts (including curatorial practice and performance art), dramatic arts (stage design, direction, dramaturgy, dramatic texts, dance, acting, music theatre and performance), design, literature (theory, criticism, essays, poetry, prose, translation), music / sound (sound installation, sound and music composition, interpretation, sound performance), and in new media / film / video.

In addition to this, since 2003 there has been a master class for young composers and the “art, science & business” programme has offered scholarships to young business people and scientists, as well as the opportunity to work on joint projects at Schloss Solitude with the Academy’s artists in residence.

The residency includes a studio apartment, an allowance of 1,000 Euros per month and the one-off payment of costs for travel to and from the Academy. The period of residency is from 6 to 12 months.

The following conditions must be met by applicants: no older than 35 years of age, or less than 5 years since the conclusion of the applicant’s studies; an ability to speak either German, English or French.

The application deadline for 2009 and 2010 scholarships has passed. Applications for 2011-2013 can be submitted from 1 July – 31 October 2010. The application form is present on the website as a pdf document.
