Our New Building

It was a long, laborious journey from conception, through planning to realisation. But the toil and trouble was more than compensated in the final result, thanks to the painstaking efforts of my predecessor Juliane Stegner and the present staff of the MMB Bangalore, particularly Sirtaj Siddiqui, the design of the gifted architect Soumitro Ghosh, and the cooperation of the most obliging builder, S. Abdul Rasheed Family Trust.

With the new institute we show a fresh face that hopefully will take its place as one of the finest cultural landmarks in Bangalore. Although a face may seem to be an outward projection only, it is not as superficial as many glossy tabloids would have us believe. Faces carry expressions and the markings of experiences and more often than not give us an idea of what might be going on behind the surface. And I believe that this fresh outlook and what lies within will enable us to meet the challenges of the 21st century in one of the most dynamic cities on earth.

For me as the new Director, it is a special privilege to start my work from such a superb new location and I ask you all for your cooperation to inhabit this new cultural space and make it a lively, thriving place for a true and lasting cultural exchange!
