General Terms and Conditions

Minimum age for participation:
16 years and above (except for Children's and Youth Programmes)

Mode of admission:
On a first come - first served basis upon payment of course fees. Admission will continue till the beginning of the course, provided seats are still available. Booking of seats via telephone or email confirmation is not permissible.

Mode of payment:
In cash or by demand draft or a/c payee cheque (payable to “Max Mueller Bhavan Kolkata”). Credit or debit cards are not accepted.

Documents required: A valid photo-ID with date of birth (e.g. passport, driving license, voter ID card, school or college ID card) along with a photocopy as well as a recent stamp-sized coloured photo need to be produced at the time of enrolment. In case one has taken a German language course or examination of the Goethe-Institut before, he/she must produce the latest examination or participation certificate of the same.

Course placement test: 
If one has prior knowledge of German language (e.g. one has attended a course at another  institute or has not attended a course at our institute for over a year), one must undergo a language test which will decide the course level one is currently suitable for. The test time-slot needs to be booked in advance at least one week before the start of the course upon payment of Rs. 500.00.

Course material:
The cost of course materials (course book, workbook, audio CD, glossary etc) is not included in the course fees.

Transfer/ Withdrawal/Refund:
Transfer to another time-slot or to the next session can be allowed only if informed at least 3 days before the start of the course and upon availability of seat. No transfer of class is possible after the commencement of the course. 

Students withdrawing from a course up to three days before it begins will be refunded the course fee after deduction of an administration charge of Rs. 1500.00. The course fee is not refundable after that. If a course is cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances, the course fee can be transferred to the next session or alternatively be refunded in full.

Course participation certificate:
After completion of a course level, participation certificates are issued subject to the requisite minimum attendance of 70%.

International certificate examinations:
At the end of each course level, the participants take the corresponding certificate examination conducted by the Goethe-Institut internationally. One has to enrol separately for the examination.

Advancement to the next level:
After completion of a course level, the participants can join the next higher level provided they have the minimum overall class performance of 60% marks (class tests, final assessment tests etc.) as well as the minimum requisite attendance. A valid examination certificate of the Goethe-Institut entitles the participant to join the next higher level.
