Basic training for German teachers

Target group
Prospective German teachers living in Syria, Jordan, Lebanon or the Palestinian Territories.
Goals of the training
The participants will be given the ability to plan, to realize and to reflect upon a course of German as a foreign language, based on a communicative learning approach.
Content of the training program
The training is based on distance learning modules from the DIFF (Deutsches Institut fuer Fernstudien), the university Kassel and the Goethe-Institut. The following subjects will be treated in common, both online and in the seminars phases.
- Classroom observation
- Lesson planning
- Grammar
- Vocabulary
- Oral skills
- Verbal skills
- Listening skills
- Reading skills
- Error correction
- Group work and personal differentiation
Date
The training will begin beginning of April for a period of one year. It includes following phases:
- 6 attendance phases at the Goethe Institute
- 6 online phases to be followed at home
- A practical training period of about 6 months at the
Goethe-Institut in Damascus, Amman, Ramallah or Beirut for sit-in sessions and assessed teaching sessions. The duration of the practical phase will depend on the courses offered by the Goethe-Institut as well as on the degree of intensity of the course. - 2 exam phases
Application
The conditions for application are:
- A University degree
- Excellent knowledge of oral and written German: native fluency or Goethe-Certificate C1 graded with “very good” ( Goal: ZOP ( Zentrale Oberstufenpruefung), KDS (kleines Deutsches Sprachdiplom),or GDS ( Grosses Deutsches Sprachdiplom)
- Solid knowledge of German grammar
- Media skills
- Internet skills
- Availability: for the duration of the attendance phases, you will be expected to be available all day, and for the sit-in phases and the assessed teaching sessions, you should be available for the duration of the course.
- A fundamental willingness to teach German in Syria, Jordan, the Palestinian Territories or Lebanon after completing the training.
