Academy of Care

The Academy of Care (Aoc) derives from our Program of Care (PoC), established in 2022. In the wake of World Mental Health Day, we are glad to introduce the Academy of Care to you. The Academy of Care is a new train-the-trainer capacity-building program designed to empower individuals through creative forms of expression to work with trauma and mental health matters over the next two years.

The Myanmar Photo Archive and Goethe-Institut Myanmar are pleased to announce a collaboration to extend, enforce and build a wider understanding of Myanmar's visual history. The Goethe-Institut Myanmar has generously reinforced the Myanmar Photo Archive to build a richer visual archive of Myanmar's history with a special two-year grant.

"Talking Types" - Monthly Gathering

We are thrilled to announce the launch of "Talking Types", a monthly gathering where type designers and enthusiasts come together to delve into all aspects of type design and typography. Burmese type designers, renowned for creating prominent Burmese fonts and regularly sharing their expertise in type design and typography via social media, will attend the meetup. These meetings will take place every second Saturday of the month.

Expanded Curatorial Practice & Exhibition Making Training

Goethe-Institut Myanmar will initiate training on expanded curatorial practice and exhibition making. The training is intended to encourage curatorial practice in the Myanmar art scene and everyone interested in curation. The main training courses will be led by Prof. Dr. Mi You from documenta Institut, followed by additional training and discussions.

KinoFest 2023

Goethe-Institut is organising the second edition of the annual German film festival, KinoFest, scheduled to run from September to November 2023. KinoFest is a joint production involving eight Goethe-Instituts in Southeast Asia, showcasing the latest films released from 2021 to 2023. In Myanmar, KinoFest can be enjoyed for free from the 1st to 15th of October.

SCIENCE FILM FESTIVAL 2023

The Goethe-Institut Myanmar is hosting the twelfth edition of the Science Film Festival in Myanmar. Unlike 2022, this year's festival will adopt a hybrid format from October 27 to November 30, 2023. Students and children can attend screenings in our auditorium from October 27 to November 12. For those unable to attend in person, the films will be available for viewing through our video-on-demand service starting from November 3, 2023, until the end of the festival.

PROGRAM OF CARE 2.0

Due to the high interest and many requests from participants, we are happy to inform you that the "Program of Care 2.0" will take place in 2023, bringing with it new innovative ideas! We aim to create space and possibilities for tackling the multiplicity of difficulties that people might face in their day-to-day lives through expressive art practice techniques. Thus, we have organized a monthly series of workshops on this topic.

Program of Care

The program was initiated by the Goethe-Institut Myanmar in 2022, in close cooperation with its partners. The idea of the Program of Care was formed during a series of conversations with partners and experts from the artistic, cultural, and psychological fields where pressing topics and anticipations in need of support were voiced, listened to, and formulated.

/SHI EXHIBITION

/Shi is an art exhibition in the city of Yangon, Myanmar. /Shi is on for 44 days from 12 November 2022 to 12 January 2023. Based on bus routes, the backbone of Yangon’s DNA, you are invited to explore 40+ artworks by 50+ artists and creatives carefully orchestrated across 7 venues over the city.

Literary translation workshops
LINK THE WOR(L)DS

For new generations of translators, to achieve good translation with international standards, this workshop was organized in collaboration with Singapore Book Council, National Centre for Writing, the world's largest book festival Frankfurt Book Fair and Goethe-Institut Myanmar. This workshop was successfully conducted in digital format via Zoom from July to October 2022.

We will have been young

An exhibition on youth and future in Southeast Asia, is the result of the Southeast Asian Photography Masterclass by Jörg Brüggemann and Tobias Kruse (Ostkreuz Photographers’ Agency) during the Obscura Festival of Photography 2016 and 2017 in Malaysia. Afterwards it travelled to Germany and Bangkok, then to Yangon.

Join us for an exhibition that traces the development of artist Htein Lin and other prominent artists' performance art within Myanmar's dynamic political and cultural landscape from 1997 to 2008. Experience this unique journey through video presentations featuring the works of ten established artists carefully curated for the exhibition from December 15 to January 6.
