Countries

The situation for contemporary art and photography varies considerably in the participating countries. But they do share a common challenge: All the former states of the Soviet Union have had to deal with the complex processes of detachment from Soviet paradigms and development of new discourses and structures – processes in which many of the artists represented here are actively participating.

In Germany, the ifa-Galerie has played an especially important role since 1991 in bringing the art of these countries to public attention.
