Groundwood Books is a Canadian publisher and distributor. It operates both in Canada and in the United States and focuses on the promotion of children’s and young adult’s books by mainly Canadian authors. Stories about the Canadian natives and marginal social groups are predominant themes. Foreign books that set themselves apart from the rest are also sporadically taken into account. Since 1998, South American authors have been published by the Imprint “Libros Tigrillo”, both in Spanish and in English. Groundwood Books prides itself on taking very special care in book production, especially regarding illustration. The publisher’s activities are made considerably easier by the financial support it receives from several cultural institutions as well as the Canadian government.
