"Fuchs aims at showing through the simplest means possible, as much as possible of the essence of those portrayed and also of himself. By thematizing his own origins in the photographs and thus pursuing an authentic approach he avoids a voyeuristic, constructed gaze at the “other” - in this case the rural population. Common clichés and handed-down ideas about “rural life” and the concept of home are questioned in the sober photographs and the gaze is directed at the individual, at the characteristics of each individual person portrayed."
