Philippines 7th Edition

The Science Film Festival continued in its seventh edition its annual celebration of science communication in the Philippines. The festival officially started on November 6 at the IMAX Theater in SM North EDSA with a screening of the film “Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience”. It is the second time that participants of the festival‘s opening event were treated to a special IMAX screening, thanks to the main partners, IMAX and SM.

In its seventh edition, the Science Film Festival 2017 offered a selection of 30 science films to explore the theme “Anthropocene – Welcome to the Human Age”. Screenings in all major hubs in the country took place with the support from the Department of Science Technology (DOST), the Department of Education (DepEd) as well as from a very loyal group of stakeholders. From November 7 to December 15, films were screened in selected public schools and science schools all over the country. Film screenings were also held at the Museo Pambata, the Mind Museum, the Philippine Science Centrum, the National Library of the Philippines, Liceo de Cagayan University, Quezon City Science Interactive Center, and at the Roque Ablan Foundation.

Overall, 189,317 individuals participated in this year’s Science Film Festival, a number that underpins the Goethe-Institut‘s growing and consolidating contribution to science and education in the Philippines.
