The exhibition PARABOLE addresses new local urban legends, intending to provide a wider critical reflection on the past, to depict the current period of mobility, migration and crisis as well as to examine the future perspectives in Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. What is the pulse in the region like?

The PARABOLE seeks a quest of the contemporary mobile narratives and the authentic realities in Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey. The exhibition attempts to draw new lines to an intersection with the parabole curve in order to submerge into processes of forming everlasting imaginary, and visible and non-visible bridges, while creating a space for regional interactive stories.

The term parabole, based on its Greek origin [παραβολή], touches two main meanings, which the exhibition PARABOLE aims to examine. On the one hand, in literature, the parabole describes a short fictitious story, an allegory, which is questioning the moral principles, so making them approachable, and transferring them onto imaginary fields. On the other hand, the parabole as a geometric form representing a curve formed by a set of points that are at a fixed distance from other lines and other points in the same plane.

Between the future and the past, the PARABOLE map reveals an immense heritage of regional circumstances, accumulated meanings, notions and emotions. Apparently, a further layer of cultural accumulation appears, if those matters are transmitted from one level to another.

Unfolding the PARABOLE provides new scenarios with visions and perspectives beyond borders and crises, and designs proximate or distant paths for modern stories of the region.
