Innocence and naivety.
New building.
What else?

Artist

Adelina Popnedeleva

Description
The idea of a world where advanced technology, combined with a sense of beauty and so creating the ideal living environment, has dated back from the early 20th century, when the German Bauhaus was created. The Bauhaus became a symbol of social, intellectual and symbolic activity.

The belief that technology can make our lives not only happier but also more equitable, is a reason today for a global revolution. The belief doesn't account for the process of the spiritual development of the individual and it looks more like a lot of conjuring formulas to change the minds of the "new person" under socialism.

Switch

Artist

Neslihan Ercan

Description
We inhabit space and think, dream, remember in terms of time. When the space is demolished, it becomes a crystal where time can be seen not because of the deterioration but because of a force into the past. Images become separated from their referents.
One becomes visionary in a circuit of an already no longer and which is not yet. There is a limit in between called the crystal or the mobile mirror through which present and past, lived and imagined, actual and virtual coexist. Voluntarily switching between the two is impossible, because one cannot decide which is one and which is the other.

Death of a Cyclist

Artist

Kosta Tonev

Description
The video Death of a Cyclist is part of a wider project, which reflects on the influence of political and economic factors in the evolution of urban life. It examines the bicycle and its reestablishment as a mode of transport in the industrialized world since the early 1970s.

The video is a reference to the 1955 Spanish film noir "Death of a Cyclist". The movie tells a story, in which the main characters strike a bicyclist with their car, and are left to deal with the consequences of the murder. This video reveals the scene of the accident from the perspective of the offenders. The camera lens brings into focus the rotating wheel of the bicycle, capturing a close-up of the cyclometer attached to it.

Lenin

Artist

Gökçen Dilek Açay

Description
There have been many people who have changed world history. They've stopped time, fast forwarding and deforming it. By time, many phenomena and ideologies gave their places to names and symbols while losing their importance and value. I was lucky to be in East Germany where I found a Lenin statue near a Russian Casern near Weimar. This statue was clean and re- polished although the buildings nearby were demolished and torn apart. I knit a nearly 4 meter long rug with phosphorous colors and decided to cover the statue with it. There is an ideological illusion that remains.

"It's Gone" is an interactive animation. The represented situation is a memory of a deer in the mountain. A video of a slightly moving deer in a fog loops till there is no presence in the space where the video is screened. The video loop is controlled by a PIR sensor. If the PIR sensor detects a moving person/ object in the space, the deer calmly leaves and hides in the fog and the mountain.
The deer is not afraid, it is not running for its life. It just concedes the mountain for you.

2012 / Body Without Surface / One Channel Video Installation / 03:03

Body Without Surface

Artist

Theodoros Kovaios

Description
I imagine a flock, a gas, a multiplicity of particles without the possibility to be touched like solids, to feel the surface's tension or its density like fluids. It is a body without a surface. Just like a smoke cloud, our society creates communities with an abstract tie around intensities and social concerns.

Acidable

Artist

Vesela Mihaylova
Veronika Krenn

Description
The "Acidable" is an interactive turntable and an orange squeezer at the same time. The machine selects different sound samples, depending on the PH value of the freshly pressed orange juice. The Acidable is equipped with a ph-sensor, potentiometers, rotary encoders and an Arduino board to communicate with Max/Msp. By pressing an orange on the squeezing machine the ph-sensor measures the acidity of the fruit and triggers a music sample. As a result of turning the oranges, the pitch, speed and the volume of the music can be modified.
2011 / A World Between / 8 Channel Video Installation

A World Between

Artist

Konstantinos Gkarametsis

Description
If we accept that the project deals with "circus world", the goal is the viewer to experience the space of "circus", that intermediates space and lies somewhere between life and death, joy and sadness, courage and fear ... life itself.

Heinz Politzer, German literary critic, characterizes the Kafkaesque exploration of the circus, as a "world between", a place outside of the common perception, an intermediate space where reality is disfigured in a strange but seemingly believable way.

Juxtapositions

Artist

h.martis

Description
Juxtaposition is the act of placement of two things/ concepts near each other for comparison or contrast. This piece started out as an experiment in fluid dynamic particle motion and compositing with 3D camera-tracked footage, in order to accompany some audio fragments that i had been working on at the time. Ultimately, it serves as a mere exploitation of the trivial contrast between the natural and the artificial.

2011 / NOD/ Robotic Installation

NOD

Artist

Candaş Şişman

Description
Invasion of technology is really a fruitful topic to discuss philosophically, which ends up with a striking conclusion. The point we arrive is that simple needs and sophisticated approaches clash. We are amazed when complicated machines fulfill simple functions such as walking and reacting. However, it is the machine itself which has to be amazed, given that it is mobile and human, to an unparalleled extent. The tools of our age are changing our ways of learning. Is what we learned so far information or what we learn is new information we formed out of data in front of us, out of our control? It is obvious that the tools being mediators of this data-information relation will present us new nodes that will upside down our point of view.

Anatolia

Artist

Şinasi Güneş

Description
Cultural layers of the past do not reach as far as the cultural diversity of Anatolia. The concept of the film refers to the taboos and privacy in addition to the cultural diversity itself.
The feminine role, which appears in social performances in society is overlapping with the gestural covering of the model in the film, e.g. employed woman, woman at home or next to her husband. They show the psychology of regional wrapping. The film lays emphasis not only on the social strangulation but also on the fact that women have been converted into cultural objects - especially woman's freedom. In addition, it is a visual feast on the diversity of traditions.
