Biography
Kosta Tonev was born in 1980 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. In 2004 he graduated from the National Academy of Arts in Sofia, and in 2008 he completed his Masters at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, Austria. His work covers various forms including video, photography, object, text and interventions, which are involved in everyday situations. He seeks to intervene and manipulate existing narratives, while maintaining their basic structure. He is interested in an object’s shifting status and in the meanings associated with this. His artistic projects have been shown in exhibition spaces like: Cecille R. Hunt Gallery at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA; Cittadellarte - Fondazione Pistoletto in Biella, Italy; Esterházy Palace in Eisenstadt, Austria and the Hilger Brot Kunsthalle in Vienna, Austria.
