Biography

The writer Aslı Erdoğan was born in Istanbul in 1967. After studying computer engineering and physics at Bogazici University in Istanbul, she began to write her doctoral dissertation in physics before deciding in 1994 to become a full-time writer. In that year she published her debut novel, “Kabuk Adam”. In 1996 this was followed by her first collection of short stories, “Mucizevi Mandarin”. Aslı Erdoğan’s works have been translated into many languages and have received numerous awards. In 1990 Erdoğan received the Yunus Nadi Short Story Prize, and in 2005 she was named one of the “50 writers of the future” by the French literary magazine “Lire”. Aslı Erdoğan lives and works today in Istanbul.
